We are on a journey together. I know, I know... that's cliche. But I'm not worried about being original, I'm worried about being honest. Can I ask you a question? When you walk out the door, which version of you leaves the house?

I have a theory. I believe that more often than not, you and I put on what I call THE BRAVE FACE. This is a strategically deployed mask or persona that allows us to get through our everyday. This is really the face most of your friends or co-workers are seeing. This is the person that your new boyfriend or girlfriend meets, and let's be real... this is definitely the person their parents meet.

THE BRAVE FACE is a defence mechanism. This tool allows us to create some space. It gives us the ability to but up some walls and protect the things that we hold dear... namely, our heart and our pride. Their is nothing that breaks faster or quicker than one's heart or ego.

So you might be asking, is this a bad thing? It's keeping me safe. That's the most insidious part of the BRAVE FACE. It's only giving you a perceived sense of safety. Putting on the BRAVE FACE is kind of like your neighbour putting a security company sign out on the lawn when you know and he knows that he bought that sign at your garage sale. It provides a false sense of security, which, in case you're counting, adds up to no security at all.

We are beginning a 5-Week journey called BRAVE FACE / GAME FACE. I believe that it's possible to live without pretending. In fact, I believe that it's necessary. I'm going to be blogging my way through this journey. You can listen to my latest talks on the subject right here on this website or by subscribing on iTunes.

I would love to hear your story as we begin this journey together! So how bout this... listen to the podcast, take some notes, process the talk, and then drop me a comment or two right here... I can't wait to see what God will do through you.
